IF I WERE IN CHARGE OF THE WORLD!

If I were in charge of the world,
I'd cancel ants, snakes,
mosquitoes and any other bug!

If I were in charge of the world,
You wouldn't have murders
You wouldn't have suicides
You wouldn't have guns,
Or "black on black crime".

If I were in charge of the world,
There'd be better days,
Peaceful nights,
And no random bombings.

If we're in charge of the world,
Every bag of chips you eat, will help you loose a pound
And a person Fat, or skinny, tall, or short
Could still be in charge of the world.

Consequences..

Anything I read of Harry Wongs, I seem to agree with. It just always sounds so right because he always have wise things to say. After reading chapter 18, I agreed with Harry Wong with setting up an effective discipline system. That sounds like a smart idea for an first year teacher or an teacher who is having problems with discipline.
Having children choose their own consequences might seem like it would work, it'll make them feel like they are taken that responsibility, and doing the right thing. But when it comes to younger grade levels you can't expect them to chose a consequence. Most of the time they don't even know what's going on. They'll be like "what? Consequence?". As I stated before there's a chance with letting the child choose there consequence will work. But you can't depend on it, and that's when Harry Wongs idea of creating a effective discipline systems comes in handy.
"the number one problem in the classroom is not discipline:it is lack of procedures and routines"
I agree one hundred percent with that. In the kindergarten class i intern in, we have procedures and  routines to do before we can get our day started. So if the class was to have a sub, and of course the sub does not know the procedure nor routine, how do you think the day for the class is going to go? they're not going to know how to act because they didnt do their daily routine or they didnt have their morning talks. Therfore they're going to have a bad day.

Picture Book Month

After reading "Picture book month, teachers guide" it made me realize that pictures books addresses, picture books allow the story to make more since, picture books relate to life, and pictures books help the book make more since when young children are looking at the book by theirselves and cant quite read yet. Which is to me one of the most important factors of picture books.
A picture book with a lot of pictures is always great! Especially for the lower grade levels who actually don't like to pay attention to the book. For example, in the kindergarten class I go to weekly, my teacher always reads a book with more pictures and less words because they are not going to focus and sit still the whole time. To make sure they are paying attention, she has them look at the pictures while she reads and when they find a connection in the pictures to what she is reading, they hold up the letter "c" with their hand, and when they have a prediction by looking at the pictures, the raise one finger up.
By doing that it shows that they're interested, focused, and paying attention. Picture books always work.

discipilne & classroom management

Before I even read Harry wongs ideas on classroom management and discipline, I had some thoughts on my own about the two. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear classroom management is, can you manage your classroom, keep your students focused and on task? As far as discipline, the first thing that's coming to mind always is, GO SIT IN THE CORNER!
In the preK class I used to intern in, had a great teacher. The teacher had her class in order, on task, paying attention ready to learn. Now that Is what I call classroom managent. In the discipline area, my teacher wasn't to strict on that. When a student did something out of order, it was never go to the corner. It was either a mental talk to get them back on track or she'd have them walk away and count to 5 to calm their body. Although with discipline the mental talk did not always work, so she moved foward with the walk away and calm your body. Of course that did not always work either, which would leave her to go to a strict discipline and consequence.
When I become a teacher, I hope to manage my classroom like my preK teacher did. I hope to have good classroom management. Always keeping my classroom under control and on task is my main things. Hopefully with a thing I call the count down method, I could get some control. The countdown method is basically when you give your students something to do and you start counting down to make sure they actually get it done. Such as getting them to go sit on the carpet, I would use the countdown method.
I used to always think discipline equals timeout, there will be no timeout in my classroom. There wont be no getting sent to the office in my classroom. You will be treated according to how you act, for example... Your acting like a baby? That's fine I can treat you like a baby. Since your acting like a baby. You get the opportunity to hold my hand at recess while your friends. That's the type of consequence I will have in my classroom.
Everyone has their own way of handling classroom management and  discipline.
