After reading "Picture book month, teachers guide" it made me realize that pictures books addresses, picture books allow the story to make more since, picture books relate to life, and pictures books help the book make more since when young children are looking at the book by theirselves and cant quite read yet. Which is to me one of the most important factors of picture books.
A picture book with a lot of pictures is always great! Especially for the lower grade levels who actually don't like to pay attention to the book. For example, in the kindergarten class I go to weekly, my teacher always reads a book with more pictures and less words because they are not going to focus and sit still the whole time. To make sure they are paying attention, she has them look at the pictures while she reads and when they find a connection in the pictures to what she is reading, they hold up the letter "c" with their hand, and when they have a prediction by looking at the pictures, the raise one finger up.
By doing that it shows that they're interested, focused, and paying attention. Picture books always work.
