A couple of days ago I started reading part c of How To Be An Affective Teacher The First Day Of School By Harry Wong.
Harry Wong states "the most important factor governing student learning is Classroom management, which what I am going to talk about today.
Classroom management is a term used by teachers to describe the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students. The term also implies the prevention of disruptive behavior.
"Effective teachers manage their classrooms, ineffective teachers discipline their classroom" meaning manage your classroom, stop something from happening before it even happens. Like separate students that you know if they sit together, that they will disrupt the classroom. Make sure they are on the opposite side of the classroom, making sure they have no contact with each other. Like Harry Wong said, you can't just cook a steak, how to cook a steak is the last thing you will learn. The first thing you need to know is how to manage the restaurant.
"Likewise, you manage a classroom; you don't discipline a classroom. "
